    Hi all,

I am thinking of joining Royal Tara and would really appreciate any insights members/visitors have of the place.

I am particularly interested in finding out if it is difficult to get out early on Saturdays/Sundays as these are the times that I can golf at.

Also, I am wondering what the practice facilities are like?

    Thanks in advance!

    Played twice here recently.

Practice facilities are very good. driving range, putting green, bunker and chipping area aswell.

The course I found to be quite long off the tee ( bar a few) needing more long irons than I'd be used to.

There is scenery but nothing that will take your breath away, a real nice track all the same. Quite safe on approach and tee shots.

The pro that was on the day I was there ( young enough ,black hair) was genuinely nice as was everyone else I met.

There did seem to be alot of the older generation playing the day I went there but maybe this was a senior day?

    Thanks Dan,

Yea, I played it a year ago. I am still quite new to the game and am worried that it may be too difficult a course for me.

I can hit a long but invariably inaccurate drive and am worried I may be out on a lot of holes until I improve!

Delighted to hear about practice facilities as that is where I need ot spend some time

    Recent thread here on it

Can't advise of how difficult it is to get tee times of a Sat or Sun morning but can't image it would be any more difficult than any other course. Their tee times were all online the day I played so that should make things easier.
I think SevesThreeIron here on boards is a member there so would be better able to advise regarding competitions etc.

The course is quite forgiving ( maybe too much so, the length saves it I think) so I wouldn't worry about difficulty. Very few holes where a wayward shot will be a lost ball. Sounds like a perfect course for you.

    Are you close by?

I found practice facilities only work if you can "tip over the road" to them.

That is good to know Dan. I need all the forgiveness I can get!

I am within 20 mins so should be accessible enough. Short game really lets me down so hoping that becoming a member will force me to work on it.

I am also looking at joining a club next year but I think royal tara is a bit expensive for me, I have a few questions if any one could answer. 1: Anyone know about meat golf club, looks reasonable rates and seems to have good driving range and putting/chipping areas. 2: can anyone use the driving range and putting greens in royal tara or is it just for members, any help with these question would be great

Co Meath is a lovely course, always in good condition. It is a challenging course with some tough long holes, but also some tricky but short par 4s. Excellent practice facilities. Putting green, chipping green, bunker area and both mat and grass driving range. Driving range is also open to the public.

Agree very nice course and facilities. If I was being really picky I'd say it arguably has too many shorter par 4s for the longer hitters.
