Audi a3 1.6 petrol clutch judder

    Hi, I have an audi a3 1.6 petrol 2004

When I take off in first gear, especially when on a hill, the car kind of shudders and vibrates. It doesnt happen if im on a flat surface unless i try to take off kind of fast. When I take off slow it doesnt happen. There is no issue with any other gear and when the car is idling sometimes there is a bit of vibration but the RPM doesnt change. Also if im driving along in any gear and press very lightly on the clutch, i can feel it vibrating up through my foot.

The clutch isnt slipping or 'high'.

I read that it could be an engine mount but i have opened the bonnet and watched the engine while someone has applied the accelerator for me and the engine doesnt seem to be moving around that much.

Id appreciate if anyone on here has any ideas of what it could be and if it would be an expensive fix? Thanks

New shape A3? If so it will be the clutch. It is a very common issue with the 1.6 petrol.

Yep its the new shape A3. How can I be certain its the clutch and not something I can do at home before having to take it to a garage?

Call in to a garage and ask for an opinion?

Money is a bit tight at the moment. If needs be, ill bring it to a garage to get fixed. If its possible for me to fix it myself, obviously i'd prefer that

That's why I suggested that you ask a garage for an opinion. At least then you should have a better idea of what the issue is. Then you can make a decision about fixing it.

Sorry, i was under the impression a garage would charge someone to diagnose a problem with car. Ill try my local garage so and see what they say about the problem

It depends on how much time they need to spend to diagnose the issue. Something like this should be a pretty quick one to check out. If you are a regular customer I would be surprised if they charged you.

Fortunately enough, im not a regular customer. No harm in going down to ask though I suppose. Ive just been under the impression that ill just get told to leave the car in to have a look it

Possibly. Or they might take it for quick spin around the yard and tell you what is wrong. Worth a try anyway.

if you take a video of the problem, explain it as you're recording and throw it up on youtube, you'll then be able to get some better opinions here...
