    Hi there,

I'm currently considering upgrading my car. One option I'm looking at is the Beetle. Annually I'm doing approx 12k kms so I don't think I'm in diesel territory.

Any comments on the petrol VW engine? It's 105bhp version. I'm looking from 131 reg upwards.

Also anything else I need to look out for with the Beetle?

    Any colours to avoid?
    Thanks

The Beetle is faily poor on space for the actual size it takes up on the road, it's Passat footprint but nothing near the interior space.

I'm not too fussed on space. 90% of the time it's just me in the car

    What about a Scirocco?

Personally not a fan of the shape. I think it looks squashed or something ðŸ˜႒

I suppose the MINI doesn't do it for you either or maybe a Fiat 500?

Mini no never really liked them. Hate the interior I like the Fiat 500 but thought it was more of a super mini.

They are a bit smaller than the Beetle alright.

The current beetle is a lovely car in fairness. Far nicer than the previous one.

Size wise, it's only 2cm longer than a Golf hatchback, and 1cm wider.

A Passat is about half a metre longer than a beetle

    Yep agree 100%.

Op we have the 105bhp TSI 1.2 in a Yeti and it's a great engine with the 6 speed box. In terms of economy we get about 42-44mpg. I'm pretty happy with it and it's being replaced by a new one in Jan. Sorry I can't give info on the Beetle but I really loved the engine etc in our Yeti which will be similar to what you're looking at.

the rear spoiler is a must-have on them IMO.

some issues with timing chains on early ones (1.2TSIs) - I think theyve gone back to belts now (2014? onwards)

    afaik..!

The newer shape Beetle also needs lowering, otherwise it looks a tad ridiculous with the stock suspension/spring setup, imo.

Friend has a new TDI one. Seems to be already lowered.

That's good, as I remember even seeing the ads when they first brought out the new model and it looked like it was a dune buggy!
