Faint Gas-like smell outside house

    Hi,

Looking for some advice. We just moved into a new house, and thought I was getting a faint smell of gas just outside the front door. I rang Gas Networks Ireland yesterday and they came out to the house to investigate. The checked all connections, and everything was ok. He confirmed that we could get a whiff of something alright, but nothing came up on his tests. I think if it was a dead rat or mouse I would know as the smell is not foul, just smells like faint natural gas to me anyway. Any ideas? Can I turn off the gas at the mains at the footpath to see if the smell goes?

    Cheers,
    Peter

Turn off the gas and report it again, the first responder can pressure test from the main cock in to your house to confirm safety but can't pressure test from the main cock back to your gas main, it has been known for first responders to miss a leak from the main cock back to main as it can be difficult to find at times also when safety is concerened there is nothing wrong with a second opinion.
