Golf Mk7 Reversing light

As a reversing aid, the reversing light on the Golf Mk7 is extremely poor. I am convinced that it is only intended as a warning light to other drivers and not as an aid to the driver for reversing into driveway etc. etc.

Is there a solution to this problem or do other drivers have the same view?

I wonder is it possible to fit a bulb in the other side panel or would it even help by having 2 reversing lights? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Umm, I don't think reversing lights are intended to enable the driver to see better? I think they're purely a signal.

Well, my car has two reversing lights and that doesn't help the visibility situation , not from the cabin at any rate. I believe you can get high-output LED reverse-light bulbs, might be worth trying?

The light is not there for your visibility, it's there for others to see you are in reverse gear.

If you need better visibility then maybe get a floodlight with sensor at your house.

Are you sure it only has one? Both my MK7 Golf's have had 2 - but both cars had the LED clusters (as fitted to GTI and above), so maybe the non-LED clusters only have the one.
You could try swapping the bulb for a LED, it'd make the light brighter/whiter but may not really throw much more light out.

As said above people sell LED bulbs that would be a lot brighter to use.

Another option would be a reverse camera, loads of fairly cheap systems out there, not sure how good they are to be honest. But likes amazon, eBay etc all do things that would help.

Seems to be the case these days alright. Pretty useless for those revising now. Once upon a time they could be depended upon to illuminate things for reversing at night. My old E34 was magnificent. Current Passat is also very good.

Thanks biko, that is very helpful!!

Sometimes, for those of us who live in rural areas, it becomes necessary to reverse on narrow unlit country roads - not sure if a floodlight with or without sensors would be of any assistance!

Replace it with an LED. I've done this to all my cars. Get a good quality one that won't give you canbus errors.

On some VAG cars there is a second reversing lamp without a bulb too. Might work by placing one in it. Did on my Octavia.
