how do people rate the newer ones from 2010 on ? might be interested in buying an SH one in the new year

I know the older ones were rated v badly

maybe the question I should ask is, whats the most reliable diesel since 2010 ? scratch that, thats a thread in itself

I drive a 2011 6 diesel 129bhp and only problem I've had so far is the DPF sensor died which caused the DPF cleanup to stop.

A quick clean out fixed it.

Normally I stick 40 quid into the car per week and I get 5.5L/100km out of it if I'm taking it easy (I'm not sure what that is in MPG).

They're a lovely car to drive.

I like them too, not as big as Audi, however smaller than Mondeo

As a former owner they're a great car, comfortable, drive well, great spec, space and the engine is stronger than the figures suggest.

However, I'd be very, very slow to buy one again as they are an unknown risk. It all depends on how it was looked after, many don't have an easily verifiable service history with them (it should be on the key itself if done by Mazda - no service book) and the intervals are a little long given their tendancy to dilute the oil with diesel.

is that due to DPF problems ?

Well they all dilute the engine oil and that can't be good for longevity as they age.

when you say all do you mean all mazda 6s or all cars with dpfs ?

Mazda 6s, although other makes have a similar design but don't have problems to the same level.

seems like it has dpf problems does the Mazda 6 have EGR problems

which way is the egr setup ? is it via an EGR valve or internal circulation via valve timing ?

for those in the trade - will a decent independent mechanic have the software to be able to diagnose faults with a Mazda and correct them ?

My wife wanted a 2009/2010 mazda 6 and after reading the list of issues I convinced her to go petrol
Yes it uses a little more fuel ~1-1.5l/100km and tax is marginally higher.

But at 20,000 km/year it's only €400/year and eliminates all the problems of DPF,DMF, turbo, timing chain stretch etc.
engine is much quieter and service parts are cheap and diy is easy.

Petrol cars are MUCH cheaper to buy and nearly always have lower mileages.
Just sold a 2003 mazda 6 with 151,000 miles and was mechanically perfect so no problems with engine life either!

Car itself is very nice, comfortable, boot is huge and is very comfortable on longer journeys. 3 child seats in the back is possible but tight!

There is a known issue with the pivots on the drivers seat coming loose. Not a huge item but worth checking.
