I realise there's probably section for this, but I'm just looking for a quick, no strings attached answer.

I've got a broken phone - like, completely broken - but I could get my hands on an identical phone. Question is, would it work if I lash my sim card into it?

    Cheers

It would have to either be from the same network or unlocked

Rooting is for androids, for iphone it is called jailbreaking.

Moved to the Apple Devices forum

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It will fit into another iPhone 4. Whether it will work or not depends on whether the phone is locked to a network or is unlocked.
