    Any opinions as too why 06/07 almeras are going quite cheaply?


    Are they a bad or reasonable car? Do about 400 miles a week , long motorway drive tipp to drogheda included it that mileage

    Very old fashioned car in plentiful supply, apart from timing chain issues not the worst but miles and miles behind a focus/golf dynamically and safety.

    I have one. 2006 Hatchback, owned from new. Does the job. I do a lot of driving.

    Not the best of rides, SXE model quite harsh suspension.
    Not great on petrol, unless you're light footed I get around 35m/gl 8.9l/100km
    Very reliable. I've 160,000kms on mine,and besides for serviceable items,no other issues.
    Headlights are useless. I upgraded them myself.
    Only airbags in the front.
    Low seating position for the driver.
    Not a very exciting car, but laps up the miles no problems.
    4th gear has no power, so overtaking is usually 5th > 3rd > 4th > 5th (which is why I probably use more petrol!)

    They are cheap mainly because they are very dated, even back in 2000 when they were launched they were not even state of the art, real 90s feel and look to them. The other reason for them being cheap is that there are alot of them for sale.

    They do suffer from timing chain issues.

    ...and Gearbox issues.
    ...and certain rust issues.
    ...and you feel like you are sitting on the floor.

    Like anything else, they are cheap for a reason ;).

    I've never had gearbox issues.
    I've never had timing chain issues.
    I've never had rust issues.

    Like ANY car, you will get gearbox issues, Chaim issues,belt issues,rattly engines, worn bushes, overheating, etc if you just buy a car and drive it.

    I do oil changes,and check all fluids as needed. Never given me an ounce of trouble. I wouldn't be a light driver issues. Most of the issues almeras had,were from the p1 N15 model. The "newer" shape fixed most of these issues.

    I think you'll find (if you want to do a few searches) that all the problems mentioned affected the N16 rather than the N15.
    Perhaps it was just a coincidence that this was after the Renault/Nissan Merger.
    The timing chains DO stretch on the N16's....chains are made by Renault apparently.
    The Headlights on the facelift N16 DO melt. The dipped section is a projector type and the plastic housing is notorious for melting.
    Ask any breaker about Gearbox problems on the N16....it's usually the 1st thing they sell off any Almera that comes into them.
    The underbodies DO rust on the Almera....you might just be one of the lucky ones who hasn't suffered any, yet.

    I had one, a '05 hatchback and like others have said, the Focus is dynamically better. However, at sane and legal road speeds, its perfectly fine and you won't see the difference. Pushing on it can get upset in the back from bumps in corners but you really have to be pushing on to see it.

    I put 250k km on mine and apart from a sticky rear brake calipers, two heater motor resistor packs and a climate control ECU (the cure is to throw out the pollen filter) it didn't give any trouble. When I got rid of it, it still had day one bushings, suspension links, clutch, etc and all were fine. It never left me down.

    However, it was serviced twice a year (one minor and one major) by myself with Nissan consumables and Castrol lubricants. I changed the gearbox oil every 100k km with a coolant and brake fluid flush every three years. I never had any gearbox issues or timing chain problems. I reckon the problems crop up on cars that miss a service or two, but I have no evidence to back up that postulation.

    (Oh as for the rust, WASH THE MUD OFF THE INNER ARCHES AND FRONT CROSS MEMBER! Once there is no deposit remaining there to keep the damp next to the body it'll be fine.)

    Edit, as for the headlights, they are a service item. Change them every three years or so. The reflectors tarnish in them, and there's no cure

    They are not a good car op. As others have mentioned they give their fair share of issues and they don't drive great either. You would be better off spending a little bit extra and get a corolla or a 02-06 4dr civic.
