New Job and Social Welfare

Hi, I had an interview the other day for a job and I'm delighted to say that I've got the job. I start on Wednesday and I'm really happy. The only thing is I just finished working in my previous job a few weeks ago. I went into make a claim at the social welfare office.
They haven't made their decision yet as to whether I'm approved to receive social welfare or not. What I want to know is do I receive social welfare payments for the last few weeks after I tell them I have this new job?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes is the short answer, when you sign off any money owing ie the number of days you were unemployed will be payed to you if your claim is successful. The best thing to do is to sign off online the day before you start your new job.
