have 13 calves n all of them at this stage have ringworm some worse than others when I saw it first I treated the calve with it with a mixture of oil and petrol [ I was told to do this by an old hand] but it spread quick n now some them look terrible with it. any ideas what I should give them to cure it or should I leave it till it clears itself next summer? they are btwn 3 - 5 months

Mod Note- We do not condone in any way this style of medical treatment, especially as it is a carcinogenic and as shown above, it does nothing for the ringworm. Please do not use it again on animals destined for the food chain and others also take note of this. Correct treatments have been mentioned below.

To shift it quickly something like Imaverol, we mix it up in a small hand held garden sprayer and spray them all over - scrubbing the ringworm with a stiff brush to ensure it soaks in - no need to worry about eyes or anything - spray away. Its about €20 to make 5l so a bit steep.

We find that Iodine spray is just as effective but takes longer, cheaper though..

I got the mineral buckets from mayo healthcare. I think it took about 2 weeks to start showing a big difference, one group needed a second bucket of the mineral lick. This was last year .

We jagged calves at the start of the summer with a jag to prevent ringworm,I forget it now, there hasn't been a case of it yet, does anyone know the name of it,came in very small bottles and calves might get a few small spots on their eyes after injection but would clear up?

Worth it in the end, hard to look at some of the worst cases, and have to be careful working with animals with it aswell

I think calves 2 weeks to 4 months old get two mls twice 14 days apart. This costs €5 x 2 doses so €10 per calf.
Older animals need higher doses so it's more expensive for them.
Best ring your vet about it.
