Here's a question ? A friend of mine lives in a very sunny climate, has a good job, very good wages, good lifestyle, and loves living where he is, it's his dream to be living there. Another job offer has come his way, you get supplied with own apartment, own car and the wages are double, but , the place is in a Northern hemisphere country with lots of rain and cold and it be also in the city, with all the traffic etc etc that comes with every city,

Would you move or stay ?

If it was double wages - going from unhappy with salary to happy with it...maybe.

Otherwise no. No money will make him/her happy
Considering everything you've described they are going to be miserable.

No, but is it that simple? Is there anything else in the equation?

Is it lining up for the next job? Do a couple of seasons at Crapford FC and you'll be in prime position for a move to Chelsea?

    Is it any nearer family?

I worked in the arse hole of nowhere in the US for a year. It was all on expenses so did not touch my salary when I was out there - so financially it was a very significant move.
But I was so bored and it really was a waste of a year for me personally and career wise.
If I had my time again I would not have done it. Cant put a price on quality of life!

It's not that simple, the new job is only a new venture starting off and it might not be a success, where as the one now is a tried and successful business with maybe room to improve.there are a few personalities clashes here but that could happen elsewhere to.

Isn't it a bummer when more information just makes it more complicated ;)

They could. Especially if the new venture has a few hiccups along the way.

I'm leaning to what I thought first off then if you're happy where you are I wouldn't move just for money.

Menas's post is a case in point.

I would, but the sunny climate and **** isn't my cup of tea, while the rainy one is.

If its a new venture and it comes with a car and a flat, then it must have some fairly confident backing from somewhere.

or someone with more money than sense a pied eyed business model and it will go belly up in a year...... your friend should stay where they are , even leaving the risk out , no money could compensate if he's miserable in new position

I'd rather be happy in my job earning fook all than earning big money and being miserable.

To put it simply, Money isn't everything.

No, if you already have a very good quality of life, and very good salary then to move to somewhere you will compromise your quality of life just for more money would be a mistake I feel.

In the circumstances described its an easy choice for me.

don't underestimate the power of Vitamin D. It can cause depression if you are used to a lot of sun and you move to somewhere without any. Especially if this person has a sallow complexion. If he decides to move to the darker north, he should invest in a few daylight lamps to dot around the house.

I prefer northern climates. So yes.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the sun on my back, and no traffic jams. That's aspirational more than reality mind.

If money is the only difference between jobs, then no. He's already got all he wants, why take all that away and replace with money?
