Hi this is my first post here so please correct me if i'm in the wrong section etc....Im currently insured on my parents car as a named driver under the aviva deal 13 lessons and 6 months insurance for 499 after 6 months i hope to take my test buy a car and insure it under my own name with one of my parents named on the policy to bring the premium down a bit my main concern i choice of car i understand that my choice is limited but i would like something slightly better than a polo or clio etc was thinking along the lines of a 98-2003 corolla 3dr 1.3/1.3 or a golf/bora 1.4 although i have heard bad things about these the corolla appeals to me for reliability reasonable power and they seem to have good resale value wondering what peoples previous experience with them is regarding insurance?
or any other cars you would recomend looking to spend 1-2.5k
    Thanks in advance

Aviva won't cover a car 15 years old, check with insurers first as some cars won't be covered because of age.

Thanks for the reply i guess 2001 or newer would be my options so as i would not be getting insured until next year anyone have any experience insuring a 01/02 1.4 corolla at 17 with a full licence ?

If it was me I would wait until you have passed the test unless you 100% need a car.

At 17 insurance is going to be expensive on whatever car your trying to insure. However insurance companies have a habit of charging more for young drivers on anything VW these days, even the lowly 1.4 versions.

My advice is to have a look on the likes of donedeal for examples of what you are trying to insure, take note of a few reg numbers and then get some insurance quotes. This will give you an idea of what you will be paying and ultimately what you can afford. I'd also forget about online insurance quotes, online quotes are mainly designed to quote the lowest risk drivers at low prices to look attractive. If you happen to not fit into the lowest risk catagory of risk then the quotes tend to go sky high. Best talk directly to insurance companies or brokers.
