eBay 'Commit to Buy' nonsense

I have a unpaid item case opened against me, even though I didn't purchase anything. I was trying to see the total price before deciding if to purchase, why are they allowed to get away with this 'commit to purchase' bull.:mad:

After doing a bit of research I found this.

Bid or Buy It Now.
Check the listing page to see what purchase options are available. You can either place a bid on an item or purchase it instantly using Buy it now. Remember, all bids are active until the listing ends. If you win or click Buy it now, you're obliged to complete the transaction.

Well I'll be damned I never new that by hitting 'buy it now' that your then committed to purchase.

The Item should have postage listed under the price if not a quick message to the seller but "buy it now" is fairly self explanatory

Add to basket, go to cart and there will be the cost including postage, then proceed to checkout.

never commit to but, did once, broke ebays back on false seller charges.

ok seriously then, I knew it meant I want to buy it, but also assumed that I would be given all the price details/exchange rates and total price, and that then I would be finally asked to 'confirm' if I wanted to go ahead with the purchase.

I think its a rotten way they have it set up, amazon's way is much more honest and encourages trust from buyers, eg 'you can view the total price before you commit to buy'


Anyway just a black mark on me copy book:eek:

the price is on the ebay listing. the exchange rates are nothing to do with ebay they are the responsibility of paypal. and you dont have to accept paypals rate you can choose to pay in your own currency and take whatever rate your card provider gives you.

Yeah, but thats not an excuse to not make it as clear as day to the buyer. On almost all websites, a confirmation button exists.

After you click commit to buy there is a confirmation screen that appears. you have to click yes on this screen to proceed. It is as clear as day if you bother to read what is on screen.

Wow, responses here sure do assume guilt. For those of you ebay power buyers and sellers, there are 100 others that are first time customers or infrequent ebay buyers. Ebay's 'Buy it Now' transaction doesn't provide all information up front before "committing" like other e-commerce sites do (shipping option prices and dates).

If you are being charged fees by ebay for customers mistakes, take it out on ebay. You may want your customers to come back.
