My LTI book is on its last page and will need to be replaced soon. Does anybody know if i have to send off the old book before they will send me out a new book? Or can i hang on to the old book until the new book arrives and then get the prescription transferred over?

    1. Ring your local HSE office, ask to be put through to the person that deals with LTI Authorisations.
    2. Ask them.

Seriously, you would have had the answer in less time than it took you to type your question.

Once you have an LTI number you don't actually need a book. You only need to get a new prescription every 6 months.

The prescription must be approved for inclusion but I replaced my book recently and was told scripts don't have to be written in. My neuro still writes it in, though and pharmacy also stamp it.

No, the prescription does not need to be in a book. Once your LTI number has been approved by PCRS you only need to renew your prescription every 6 months.
The HSE issued a list of core approved drugs for each of the LTI illnesses.
Non approved items can be applied for, but approval for non-core items is not a formality.
The initial application has to be signed by your doctor and once all the prescribed medicines are on the core list then they are automatically approved.
The local HSE will issue an LTI number for the patient and it may take a few weeks more before the PCRS approves that issued number.

    I most certainly am not!
Whatever gave you the idea that I was?
Certainly nothing I've ever posted here!

thank you for your sterling contribution.

Of all the contributions so far, my one is still the only one that will actually get you the answer to the question you asked, so don't knock it.

Do you know the answer yet? If not, follow my advice and you'll have your answer by 9:05 tomorrow morning.
If you had done it in the first place, you'd have had the answer at 10:33 on Friday, and if you'd done it when I suggested it you probably would have had to wait til they came back from lunch, but you would have had the answer at 2:01 on Friday.
