In my limited experience they are generally EMTs. The only provider of paramedic training here is the HSE themselves, and that would be to fill available positions. PHECC do have a conversion process for overseas qualifications so it is possible there may be a few paramedics within the privates, but it would not be the norm.
Most EMTs I've met are plugging away at the day job and waiting to apply for the next intake of paramedics.
yeah you've very limited experience alright, the private ambulance companies do have paramedic on their ambulance, and advanced paramedics and the HSE aren't the only provider of paramedic training, DFB are also!!

Good to know, and I'd forgotten about the DFB. Are they generally ex-HSE/DFB paramedics? How does upskilling/recertification work with paramedics that are outside the golden circle?
The Irish Defence Forces also have Paramedics and Advanced Paramedics, training is funded by the Defence Forces with training provided by the NASC and UCD. The Irish Coast Guard have Paramedics on their helicopters, I am unsure if they presently have Advanced Paramedics.
The privates are generally EMT level for transporting. However all do have a number of paramedics and advanced paramedics among their ranks. Some do it as a nixer while working with HSE/DFB while others are full time with the privates
Are medilink and lifeline ambulance drivers trained paramedics? Or do they just provide intermediate care such as transporting patients.
I myself have personally worked alongside Medilink, Heart ER and medicall private ambulance services on events, i am also a red cross volunteer. private ambulance services paramedics and advanced paramedics are usually older guys who have either left the service or retired but want to keep their certs, its quite rare to find a younger paramedic in the services generally its all EMTs but they need paramedics on all vehicles, this is from my in person expirience working with these services
