BIM for small construction projects.

    Has anyone here experience of what are the best BIM packages for small construction projects and single residential projects. I already have Revit but a lot of our plans are 2D. I would be going through design planning to assigned certifier and onsite project management

    I would have thought that Revit would be more than capable?

    The free version is Google Sketch Up, but Revit is far supieror.

    What I want is more the onsite software for records and snags

    Would a full scale BIM package be overkill for a small domestic project? There's a big time commitment.

    If site records are your main concern would a simple database or spreadsheet be faster and more useful for the task?

    That's what I was thinking but if I thaught there would be something more construction specific out there for this. I am looking as BIM 360 field next week to see its capabilities

    I've tried out BIM 5D on Sketchup but didn't think it was worth the effort and it is more for quantities, estimating etc. I do think its only a matter of time before BIM of some sort starts being used widely in residential sector

    its quite good for on site inspections and post tender stage.
    it takes the 'back in the office' work away from inspections as you can make reports, comments etc and upload photos, documents etc while on site to the project file.

    if you were doing a lot of SI 9 type jobs id recommend it.
