I put Chorus 11spd on my bike, the new 'ugly' one, which I've grown to love. There was loads of spiel about how easy it was to change chainrings with the new groupset. I bought 53/39 but am planning a trip to Alpe d'huez next year and want to change the set up at the front to compact (already have a 28 on the back courtesy of Flanders sportive this year). I can't seem to find anywhere online where I can purchase the chainrings independent of the spider. Does anybody know if you can and where?
    Thanks

I'm assuming you mean the latest 4 arm design spider.....? not easy to find the rings , and certainly not cheap, if you go for oem items, but they can be bought here..: http://www.chickencycles.co.uk/index.php?cat=32

The Campag oem ones are 4th on the page, further down there are more reasonably priced Specialites TA rings

Thanks @TheBlaaMan, couldn't find them anywhere.
They're pricey alright but I reckon a worthwhile investment over time.
By the way, what does 'oem' mean?
    Thanks

So they come with 53, 52 and 50 outer and 39, 36 and 34 inner.
I have 53x39 on my bike.

Do you know if the gearing work if I just bought the 34 or 36 and left the 53 on with a 28-12 cassette on i.e. will the mechs work across such a range of gears.

Probably a question worthy of a separate thread but you may or may not know.

    Thanks

Generally, you will be fine and the front mech will operate smoothly as long as the differential between the chainrings doesn't exceed 16, so 53/36 is not 'approved' but it might work. 52/36 is a common enough, and really nice, combination. No easy or cheap solution in terms of "testing "things 50/39 will work, so maybe buy the 50 first and try it out....
