So I halfheartedly applied for Ryder Cup tickets random selection a while ago, not thinking much of it. But i got an email a few days ago saying I will have the opportunity to purchase tickets next week!

Just wondering if anyone here has been to one in the USA before? Is it worth going?

And are tickets very hard to come by? As in, would I be mad to pass up this opportunity?

With the unbeliveable calibre of players on each team at the min, it could be something special!

Eh? The teams wont be finalised until late August (Europe) and late September (USA) 2016.

I was at Brookline, the Belfry and K Club and with some small exceptions the experience was pretty similar at them all. K Club was probably the messiest because of the weather and complicated shuttles (Punchestown), draconian security (no mobile phones) and the fact that tickets were non transferable - i.e. you had to show ID to prove it was your ticket, so no giving it to a mate if you couldn't attend. I've still not heard an acceptable explanation for that.

Main problem at Brookline (apart from the noisy, hostile drunks on the Sunday) was the abysmal catering available to those without access to Corporate tents. They literally had just hot dogs and burgers for sale. The only way to eat properly was to leave the course, take a shuttle back to the town and go to a restaurant or diner. It wasn't far but it was ridiculous to have to do it.

The problem with the RC is there are so few matches out so the gallery is very concentrated. The options are to just take up a position and wait for the matches to come through, or try to work your way around the course. The latter is tough and you need some gadget to allow you see over the heads of the hundreds in front of you. You definitely see a lot more on TV and I watched some of the key moments in all the events on screens in the bar!

Would I go again? If it was convenient, only maybe. Would I go to the States for one? Only if I had other good reasons - and access to decent affordable accommodation close by.

We were in Gleneagles last year. We had a great time, great set up and a beautiful setting. Would I go again, definitely not. You don't get to see a lot of golf. I would prefer to take the few days off work and watch it on tv.

Thinking about it, the most interesting day was the practice day we attended at the Belfry - I think it was the Wednesday. Got really up close to the players; watched guys hit different shots, listened to the chat between players, Sam Torrance etc. Interesting to see who was playing with whom. It was completely relaxed and really good. The US team wasn't quite as accessible but those who were there (no sign of Tiger) were OK.

So I would definitely recommend a practice day. We didn't bother with the awful opening ceremony - went off and played golf that day. Didn't see much of the fun and games after the win as we had a ferry to catch from Liverpool.

We went To Medinah, fantastic atmosphere but very difficult to see any actual Golf up close due to the huge numbers and limited groups.
Tons of Europeans which made it a great social event in the evenings

Would I go again...... possibly not as I missed so much on the Sunday and was following it all by on course radio and TV screens

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful!

Think my mind is made up, France 2018 might be a better option! :)

Well Tiger is going to be there next year as he has been named as a vice captain!!!

Along with furyk and stricker. Thought furyk would be getting very close to being on the team outright. They will have a young team so some experience would be helpful

Only problem is that their Ryder Cup experiences haven't exactly been positive ones on the whole!
