    Hi all,

Just wondering how Rationel and Sean Doyle Windows stack up in terms of after sales support and whether or not any issues were quickly rectified. Currently looking at getting triple glazed Alu Clad on a new build and have narrowed it down to these two.

    Thanks for your help!

Me too, if you don't mind.

At foundation level and ust starting to look around for windows. Looked at Grady's windows and doors today but I really didn't like the hinges on the french doors and composite front doors. Also getting price from Munster but would like to get a few prices.

Why can't people discuss their experiences?

Because (some) companies like sending solicitors letters threatening to sue Boards! BTW, the companies named in the OP have not done this.

In addition, in the past, companies have set up accounts on Boards (pretending to be Joe Public) and posting that Company A is fantastic (their own company), but, Company B is crap (their competitors)!

    That's basically why.

Windows seem to be a far more sensitive product then anything else. As long as you are not looking for opinions on triple-glazed suppliers you will find nearly 250 posts of opinion on double-glazed windows in the DIY sub-forum - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054905532

There appears to be a rather more relaxed regime in that parish.

Wouldn't an internet site where people can discuss their experiences regarding products and services be a great idea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,725 ✭✭✭Metric Tensor

It would - but a legal nightmare!

Do you remember the short lived "rate your solicitor" website?

Do you think there would of been as much fuss if it was rate your mechanic or roofer. Those boys don't like the revenue stream taking a hit.

Or teachers! One already exists for them and there seems to be no push to have it taken down!

Why not start you own and see how you get on?

Unfortunately www.ebuild.co.uk has closed but the archive is still a good source of info on specific companies. Even though its UK-based, comparisons such as this are interesting: http://www.ebuild.co.uk/topic/17265-comparison-of-window-quotes/

Apart from that it is a mine of information, although probably not for much longer.....

FYI - There is a new forum called buildhub.org.uk that continues what ebuild did (in spirit anyway):

Now any window recommendations aren't necessarily going to translate over to Ireland as half the battle is getting good installers but it might offer some technical advice in one of the sub forums.

Yes, I see a lot of the same contributors are active on there, brilliant.

Indeed. How does the average consumer differentiate between a 'peach' and a lemon' given the 'information asymmetry' in this market ?

(Although you’d honestly wonder about the actual degree of asymmetry between punter & professional in the window industry when one of the companies mentioned had the display below at last years Dublin SelfBuild exhibition despite; a) having no connection with Nordan, b) Nordan never having manufactured in Ireland )
