    This is my current rig.
    • Case: Fractal R3
    • RAM: 2 x 4GB (2 slots free)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K
    • Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD55 (B3)
    • PSU: Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 650W
    • Hard Drive: 1.5 TB Samsung
    • Display: Sapphire AMD Radeon 6950
I'm looking to improve the GPU and possibly add an SSD. Any suggestions welcome.

    What's the PC used for?
    What is your screen resolution?
    What's your budget?

I'm hoping to use it for Fallout 4. I play on 1920x1080. I'd be hoping to stay under €400.

A GTX 970 or an R9 390 + Crucial BX100 250gb ssd should be around €400 in total depending on models and shop.

Where is good to shop now? Has HWV come back from it's insolvency issue?

For 2 items like that Amazon is probably your best bet.

You could use the discount site geizhals.de and from there get it from Amazon.de if you wanted the best price but shop around for deals.

Would the 290 be a good upgrade or would it only be minor?

290 is a little weaker than a 390/970, but its only got 4gb VRAM where the 390 has 8gb.

290 is also loudest, hottest and most power hungry

Is there anything in between? The 390 is coming in at €370.

    There are cheaper ones.

This one is €327 after geizhals discount.

/edit scratch that, no delivery to Ireland on this one. You can always go for a 120gb ssd for windows for now if you wanted to save a few beans towards the card.

I'd lean towards the 970 out of those 2 for 1080p. Fallout 4 will support some gameworks features but at the same time if the mod community goes as crazy with 4 as they did with 3 the 8gb of memory on the 390 will serve you well for texture upgrades.

Bear in mind you'd probably get €80-€100 (maybe a bit more) for the 6950, that'll decrease your cost and make a €450 purchase of a 250GB Samsung 850 and Sapphire 390 about €350-€370.

You could always get a 240GB Sandisk SSD and Powercolor 390 and that'd cost €420 delivered or €320-€340 factoring in the 6950 sale.

The more expensive one is clocked higher and I believe it's a little cooler running. You can overclock them both so I wouldn't fret the clock speeds.

They're both expensive I'll tell you that Link
