Drinks giant Diageo announced that its iconic St James’s Gate Brewery will stop using isinglass — a gelatine made from fish bladders — in its filtration methods for Guinness.

“We are at the beginning of the project to install the new system,” according to a company spokeswoman.

“It is a complex project and will take many months to install and test before it goes live and is used in the production of Guinness. We hope to have the new system up and running by late 2016 with the liquid on the shelves for consumers to buy soon after.”

Other vegan Irish stouts exist, for those who want the general taste of one now - not aware of an Irish vegan nitro stout though, and there is a big enough difference in mouth-feel between nitro and carbonated (Guinness being nitro)

Rye River Brewing have a vegan senior/head brewer and all their products are vegan (having asked them, but they also confirm on Twitter - https://twitter.com/ryeriverbrewing/status/595962874826256385 ) as a result and they produce a number of stouts - Solas from Tesco, McGargles and Crafty from Lidl.
