Pacing help needed!

I've been lurking around here for a few weeks and have finally come to the realisation (after about 2 years of semi regular running!) that I run all of my training runs too fast. Next year I want to do more races - mainly 5k and 10k, would love to attempt half marathon if all goes well. I am about to invest in a watch but just wondering can anyone help me with pacing? Current pb for 5k is 25 mins, 10k is 54 mins. I want to improve on these (a lot!) but up to now every time I go for a run I try to get my mins/km lower than the previous run which I now realise was not a good approach! Any help appreciated!

The above might be a good place to start. If you put in your current time and your target time, they will give you various training paces for different types of runs - long runs, tempo runs etc. It's not bad as a rough guideline.

Great thanks will check that out! Hard to get it into my head that I need to slow down to speed up but starting to make sense now
