Hi, My car was first registered 31.3.2006 (Northern Ireland) and first licensed in the Republic on 1.8.2008. By what date will I need to have passed the nct in order to receive a 2 year cert? I think 2.1.16 and therefore I should test it before 3.12.2015 this year in order for a retest to also take place in time to get the 2 year cert. Is this correct? Thanks.

    30.3.2016

Over 90 days before that date and you get 2 years from the pass date.

And within those 90 days it will be 2 years from original expiry date? so a cert till 30.3.18? I am selling the car as soon as it passes nct and want as long nct on it as possible.

Within those 90 days it will be 30.3.2017, before the 90 days it will be 2 years from the date it is tested.

Thanks, it is at least clear, but is it not strange seeing as the car is not officially 10 years old until the end of March.

I tried that 2 weeks before my car hit the 10 and they gave me the "were doing you a favour NCTing your car early " never felt the NCT ever did me any favours....
