I am starting this thread in relation to the Dublin is a Kip thread and reading through the comments noticing the child-like fear and timidness among so many people from outside of Dublin towards the cities 'dangers'. You would think it was an ISIS warzone or something by the way they carry on over a handful of skangers, a pub fight or some litter on the streets. Loads of 'me mammy told me Dublin is dangerous' type attitude among grown adult males.

Honestly, is it any wonder we are a nation who do nothing when the banks rip us off, or Denis O'Brien controls our free speech when you realise how common this 'I went to Dublin and saw a bad, bad man who looked like he was buying drugs and I was sooooooooooooo scared!!!' mentality.

A nation of timid mammy's little boys terrified of things which are more or less a standard aspect of modern living.

Neither should walking past a dozen homeless people begging for money on the 5 minute walk from the bus to work.

Denis O'Brien isn't likely to stumble up to me with a filty paper cup looking for change for smokes or "the bus"

Unless they're acting aggressively though there's no reason to be scared of them.

Two of them appear to have gangland links, meaning that those incidents cannot be used to determine Dublin's safety or lack thereof for ordinary people.

Just because I don't like carrots doesn't make me afraid of them. In fact, most if not all bright coloured vegetables should fear me.

Yeah, gangland activity can in no way determine if a place is safe or not.

Dublin wouldn't be a bad place if the people if Dublin weren't such pussies tolerating all the skangers and scumbags that give the place such a bad name.

I overheard clovenhoof remarking on your diminutive penis and I also heard him say that Mayo suck at the gaa.

Not old fashioned so much as just in denial. Drug taking and consumption in public is a feature of virtually every single city in the world. Certain societal issues or policy decisions can lead to it being more or less exposed but it happens everywhere.

As are most/almost all shootings in Dublin. I think the OP is OTT but I have met some ridiculous attitudes from those beyond The Pale with regards to Dublin. My boss (Wexford) at work told me he feared for his life walking around Dublin during the daytime. How can someone be taken seriously when they say nonsense like that?
