I would think existing satellites they have in space would be unable to support it.

Cloud based storage would be good for the consumer depending on its implementation. No need to worry about local space limitations and either forgoing recording certain things, or having to delete a pile of unwatched stuff to free up space.

Can you imagine the €€€€€€€ they will be charging in Ireland?

No doubt Sky will offer this at a riduculous price like they did when HD came out. I think the hd boxes cost €599 initially before being gradually dropped to free.

Also if they charge €15 per month for HD here who much will they demand for UHD?

Existing satellites are fine, assuming there is enough free transponder space. The transmission mode remains the same (DVB-S2), only the video compression is changed (h.265 in place of h.264).

I was thinking to 4k all the existing HD channels they couldn't do this with existing setup.

That wouldn't happen in the same way all SD channels weren't moved to HD

But the presumption would be all current HD channels being uber premium over the rest of the channels would need to move to 4K, can it be done on existing setup?

Yes, I couldn't remember the exact figure but €400 is also extortionate.

Interesting to see what they do this time.

This is the way of things when new tech comes out, it's expensive at first and then drops quickly. Ask anyone who bought their 4k TV a year or two ago. If you're not bothered, then don't get it, but if you want cutting edge tech then you can't expect to get it free.

They use fibre LNBs in some apartment installs already. Interesting how they will implement this in single homes. Can they have dual fibre and traditional LNBs on one dish? If not - will this be a problem for those with Sky and non-Sky equipment?

Haven't ever come across a combi fibre/traditional LNB. I'm assuming here, the new receivers will have a direct fibre connection from the dish to use the 4 tuner option which avoids the requirement to run 4 co-ax from a fibre to co-ax splitter. There should also be a splitter option for legacy co-ax fed Sky multiroom boxes.

Edited thread title. We don't know that this is a new set top box (though it probably is) and we certainly don't like ALL CAPS - it's shouting
