2012-13 Diesel Recommendations Needed

Hi there, was looking at getting a 2012-13 diesel car. Was looking at Ford Focuses 1.6l or slightly higher but my mechanic said to stay away from focus diesel cars, that they give more trouble than the petrol equivalents.

Anyone got a recommendation for types of car around the same cost bracket?

The current model Focus 1.6 diesel from 2012 is not a bad car, the engine was revised and not as troublesome as the previous model which I think your mechanic was mainly talking about.

What does your mechanic suggest you buy instead?

There's not much to choose between any of the cars in that class if you ask me.

    Focus
    Golf/Leon/Octavia
    Auris
    I30/Ceed
    Megane
    etc etc

    Buy whichever one you prefer.

Good value in Meganes these days and the Megane III is as reliable as anything else out there in that class.

Judging by his suspicions regarding the reliability of the Focus the poor aul mechanic would probably have a panic attack if the OP suggested a Renault :pac:
