wildlife books for kids

as it's coming up to christmas - and as a friend who's a parent (of a toddler) has asked me - any recommendations of books for kids with a wildlife bent?
i know there are a fair few pocket guides, but they tend to focus on one subject, so are there any simple general pocket guides? my friend was looking for one to be able to answer kid's questions, rather than the sort of heavyish collin's wildlife guide which is just big enough to be a pain to lug around...

I'd definitely recommend "My First Book of Irish Animals" - I was onboard the crowd funding of it and got a signed copy for myself the kids.

The Ladybird series "What to look for in Summer" etc. are excellent books that parents can read to their children and the illustrations are superb.

the initial request was from a friend whose toddler is wanting to identify leaves, etc., and she just wanted to make sure she ws giving him the right answers. so a general little handbook would be good there. those ladybird books look great for that i reckon.
