My sister has Toshiba satellite C50 A 10W laptop with Windows 8 on it.
It is stuck on a blue screen that says "Preparing to configure windows Don't turn off your computer".
I tried holding the power button and all it does is go into standby mode.
I can't get the frigging thing to completely shut down.
Has anyone any suggestions on what I can do?

    Take the battery out.

The devil is in the detail. It is configuring windows and sometimes it takes quite a while to do so, so it would be unwise to shut the computer down when it is telling you not to turn off your computer. Just wait till it is finished configuring itself and it will shut-down itself.

Wait 2 hours ,let it go to standby mode ,
you might have to plug out the power socket to stop the loop .
wait 5 minuts ,turn it on,
if it says drive c needs to be checked cancel it ,
or let it check the disk ,takes 20minutes approx.
ie it checks the disk for missing or bad files ,sectors .
    since it was no shutdown.
you could try f8 ,safe mode too if it still goes into an an endless loop ,
After the power up, first new startup .
i plugged out my windows 7 laptop maybe 6 times ,
as it has a slightly loose power cable .
Does,nt seem to make any difference.

It's ok I got it working again.
I held down the power button for a while when I was turning it back on from standby and it shut down.
    It's working fine now.
