My father has this on his car insurance for myself and my siblings. I fall within the age criteria for this extra plan. Is this considered the same as a named driver when looking for a premium in my own name i.e where they ask the question are you a named driver on a policy

I don't think so as the name is not specified so the experience can't be proven.

You specifically need to be named as a driver on the policy for it to count as named driver experience

No, My father has had open driving for years for anyone over 25 with full license and his permission, there are no named drivers on it

If you are over the required age get yourself named on the policy.

You won't show up on the policy docs but there will be a record of it with the insurer, that means when the time comes to get your own policy, presuming you don't have one, you can request a letter of named driving experience from the company which will help to bring the cost of your own policy down.

However it won't count for anything if you currently have your own live policy.
