Which car makes more sense?

    Hi there,

Looking for a little guidance! I am moving to the UK in January 2016 and am not sure which route to go with my car.

I currently have an 01 Peugeot 106 that I purchased for 1,000 euro last year. The NCT is up at the end of November and it's good wee car- haven't had any bother with it but probably will need a few things such as tires etc to get it through again, maybe more. If I take this car with me (on the ferry) I will obviously have to NCT it but on he plus side I won't have to change it over for a few months (up to 6 I believe) and my current insurance would cover me for those few months as well. The problem is paying for NCT and repairs for a car that I will have to change over or take back to Ireland at some stage.

The other option is selling it and buying a Northern Reg car before I go. I'm right up near the border so it wouldn't be much trouble. I could probably get a decent car cheaper up there and it would have MOT for a few months at least and then I could get in re done in UK when it's up (no need to change it over etc). The most I would probably get for my current car would be 400-500 without it's test so would need to put a bit towards it myself.
If I go this route, I'll also need to get a new insurance provider and need to hand over a deposit.

So which option makes more sense? Is there anything I'm not taking into account? Also before anyone says it- I can't wait til I'm in the UK to get a car as I have a job lined up that requires me to drive! Also, I need the car to take all of my stuff over to the UK.

    Thanks in advance

If you are moving to the UK then it makes sense to sell your car and buy a cheaper one there. If you then move back after the appropriate period of time, you can take your car back without VRT.

Put it in for nct as is and either get a failure list or if it passes nct sell it for more here and use the cash for a better NI car.
