Hi there, a question I cant seem to find info about it anywhere!
I got my learner in 2006, didn't pass my test. Stopped driving when it expired and got it renewed in 2011 and it expired in 2013 (I think) I was only driving for a few months in 2011 (money and car problems haha). So having just a learner wasn't that much enforced at the time.

I've been told by numerous people (not official people just friends or people I've been chatting to) that because I got my provisional license before the new rules of the 12 lessons etc that I don't have to actually do the 12 lessons. Is this true? Does anyone know? I cant imagine it would be true because a provisional licence is a provisional licence no matter when you get it first so I'll still have to go by the rules. And plus they'll make their money.

    But
a few different people have told me, some who wouldn't know each other even. It would be great if it was true but the licence centre is far away from me (id need a car to get there) so I havent asked any officials. Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)

No idea if your circumstances affect anything. From my experience, I had mine in 2011 and only passed test a month ago. I didn't have to do it under the new rules (didn't require a lesson log book, not sure on other benefits)

Probably someone will be able to help better than me!

If you're certain about the dates then you can take is as read; you won't need to do the EDT lessons. More specifically, if you got your first permit in 2006 before they were mandatory and it hasn't expired for 5 years or more at any stage (ie if you went back to square one in 2011), then you're good.

The easiest thing to do is call the NDLS customer service line with your driver number or PPS number handy and they'll confirm as they'll be able to pull up your info.

If you had a learner permit before April 4 2011 & it has not been expired for 5 years or more, you do not have to do the 12 EDT lessons. End of story. :)
