Opinions on Mazda 3 and 6

Hi, my trusty Nissan Almera of 3 years gave up the ghost yesterday. (geddit?)

I'm looking for a car that's reliable and somewhat nippy. I've done a bit of research online and have come to the conclusion that a Mazda 3 or 6 would suit me down to the ground. I've no interest in a diesel despite the fact I do over 400kms per week, I just hate driving them. I'm looking for a 1.6 or a 1.8 petrol, preferably 06 and above. My budget is €4500-€5000.

I'd really appreciate people's opinions on these two models.
