Brake pad brand for Focus Mk2

    Right lads,

I temporarily fixed my previous brake squeal issue on new front brake pads by chamfering the edges. It seems like the chamfer now is gone and the brakes are squealing again.

I have identified my current brake pads as A.B.S pads because they have no chamfer and they are one flat block with cut out in the centre. I can't see the brand at the back of the pad because the painted surface has flaked off.

I can't be bothered chamfering them again so I'm just going to go and buy a new set of better quality pads, the question is which ones?

I was looking at Ferodo, Pagid and Brembo pads. Which of these would be best for a Focus Mk2?

Where abouts can I get them? Are the Ford main dealers selling Motorcraft pads or are Ford pads rebranded Motorcrafts?

Get them in main dealers. Ford parts are all motorcraft branded just the name they use.

You need discs not pads. Have you measured how thick the discs are? Or measure how much lip there is and subtract from the external width.

I have brand new discs and pads all around. It's just the front pads are cheap and squeal because they're completely flat with no chamfer.

the brake squeal a lot of the time comes from the back of the pad and can be simply cured with a bit of antiseize (copper grease)good quality pads generally have a liner to stop this

Yep I tried that initially. It's just that the pad has a flat surface with no chamfer. You get the same effect with chalk on a board if you don't angle the chalk :(

I'll probably end up going with the OE pads.

I'm not impressed with the amount of brake dust that is being left on the wheels from the current pads too.

Have experience with ABS braking products myself and all i can say is they are cheap for a reason!

Was it the mintex pads giving the extra brake dust?

    No they were A.B.S pads.

Just fitted the Ford OEM Motorcraft pads. Squeal is completely gone. €64.58 for a set of front pads at the Ford dealership in Clondalkin.

I went to Ford Airside beforehand and they said €94 :pac:

So now I'm stuck with spare pads that are in almost brand new condition but squeal. Would anyone want them? I would rather give them away than chuck them in the bin. They brake well if you can deal with a bit of squeal at low speeds.

You're not the first person to have an experience like that with Ford Airside...
