Time off work for surgery - entitlements?

    Hi all,

I have to get a tonsillectomy done at the end of this month, and my surgeon has recommend that I take a minimum of 2 weeks off work. I have been in my current job for 7 months and they do not pay for sickness until you're with the company for 1 year. I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what I would be entitled to from social welfare.

    Thanks in advance ðŸ˜႒

You would possibly be entitled to illness benefit but I don't think they pay the first 3/4 days of it.

I think it's now after the first six days

Could you postpone the operation until you have been at work for more than the year? If it's not an emergency that might be an option.

Could you take the two weeks as annual leave?

    This is the best option
On SW depending on your PRSI contribution/credits in 2013/2012 and your rate of pay in 2013 you will get 0 for the first 6 days and max 188 for the next 6 + extra four significant other and kids subsequent to a means test
