Hey guys, visiting Brussels in January with my boyfriend but I'm very unsure about the whole trip as it's a surprise and usually he plans the trips!

We are flying into Charleroi airport which I believe is about a half hour away so I have found a shuttle bus for 20 euro which is a good deal.

I'm a little stuck on what to say but so far I have come up with the obvious Grand Place/Mannekin Pis/ Attonium (no idea how to get to). Would renting a bike out be a good idea? Also anybody have a clue where the best view would be for some nice photos? I hear there is a very old cathedral so I might try visit that but apparently great views are hard to come by compared to say Berlin with the TV tower.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help I receive! It's a stressful time booking these on your own and I commend my boyfriend who generally does all the work!

    Thanks guys :)

We were there a few years back, stayed three days I think as part of an interrailing trip. The open top bus tour was pretty good and stops at the atomium. Also remember a museum of musical instruments which was excellent, and another of comics. We didn't do a tour of a chocolate making shop but would have liked to, just didn't have time or weren't organised enough. It's a lovely city, great beers and waffles!

Brugge is probably one of the most beautiful towns I have ever had the pleasure of visiting - I was only there for a day unfortunately but it certainly left an impression on me. I'd love to go back. As for things to do - it would exactly be action packed but it's nice enough that just a day spent chilling there would be a day to remember. I'd love to go back for a bit longer.

Check out the Use-It maps for both cities (https://www.use-it.travel/cities). The Belgian local government sponsored them and they're written by locals talking about their favourite places/how to act like a local etc. I picked one up by chance in a hostel and we found some great places from them (most hostels have the paper copies, but they're online too).

I wouldn't really bother with the chocolate shop tour though, it's really small inside.
If you're going to Brugge, get a hot chocolate in the tea-room over the Olde Chocolate Shop, it's amazing :D

Charleroi airport is not in Bruss, and so is more than half-hour away.

    It's 60km away, I'd say 1hr by coach.

The first two are in the city centre, Atomium is in the suburbs.

    Hey Folks

There are 10 of us (girls) looking to go for the May BH. We were looking at Krakow but flights are 230 whereas Brussels is 43!! It is Charleroi so that adds the shuttle bus to it. Any suggestions of places to stay - apartments/hotels. Would it be a good place for us to go - bearing in mind we are all in our late 40's/50's so not interested in wild nights!

Its 62 euro to go into Brussels Airport.

Last time I was there we organised a tour of the European Parliament through our MEP. Was well worth it.

For the same of 20€ I'd go to brussels airport. Not much difference when you take the bus from Charleroi.

When I was there I seen a t shirt on a stall that read "good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to brugge" I remember laughing about how unlikely that was with my missus.
    Thanks for confirming our suspicions:D
