What do you guys reckon about this?

    https://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/alfa-romeo-159-1-8-mpi-lusso/10291607

I saw a couple of posts in older threads with posters saying that the 1.8 159 was underpowered but other posters saying it isn't. I don't do enough miles to justify a diesel.

Not sure what I want really, need to get a car in the next month or my no claims bonus will run out so I fancy getting something interesting. I'm quite tall so have always driven saloon cars but I don't do many miles. I work in town so commute by bus during the week so I mostly drive at weekends and even then it would be pottering around Dublin with the odd trip down the country a couple of times a year.

But at the same time I want something interesting to drive/ look at :pac: Any info about the 159 above or recommendations for other options would be greatly appreciated. Max budget is 7-8k.

If this is the GM/Opel 1.8 VVT (Z18XER) engine, then it's the same ones as in my Fiat Croma.
Steer clear! I cannot imagine how depressing having this engine in an Alfa would be!

There is a few variants of the 159 petrol engine...the ones sold widely here are probably the 1.8 mpi and the 1.9 jts.

My bro has the 1.9 jts and it really wouldnt pull you out of bed in the low rev ranges...feels like a tank and only gets around 28mpg, its ok at crusing speeds. I have heard the 1.8 mpi is slightly better but Im not sure.

Apparently diesel is the way to go on the 159...good ones are few and far between in Ireland unfortuneatly.

They are still one of my fav cars to look at on the road currently.
