Firmware upgrade for Triax set-top box

It appears that software upgrades are no longer available for Triax Saorview approved set-top boxes on the Triax website.

As far as I recall, there used to be a Downloads section, which contained available software updates, to download to a USB key? Does anyone have a link in order to download?

Also, regarding the combo-box Triax TSC114 combo-box - does installation of this combo-box allow reception of the UK free-to-air channels with the UHF arial, which is currently in place for Saorview channel reception.

    Thanks for any advice.

Are you having some specific issue that you think could be solved with an update?

You'll only get UK channels with a UHF aerial if you're within range of a UK terrestrial transmitter, so it's location-dependent. I presume you're aware the combo has a satellite tuner, that would allow reception of UK channels all over Ireland, given a suitable dish setup?

    Thanks Thurston for that info.

No, there is no specific issue at the moment, it relates to a Triax twin tuner box (TR212S) that has yet to be installed. I am aware however, that software upgrades were released for this model some time after it came to market and these were available via the Triax UK website at the time, but apparently no longer available - hence my question.

Regarding the UK channels, thanks for the comprehensive answer to the second question. In this instance, the location is not within reach of a UK terrestrial transmitter and does not have satellite dish fitted, therefore, the combo box will not be an option at the moment.

Indeed there was a firmware update to fix a subtitling problem.

They have moved from .co.uk to .uk on their website and I am sure its just a hyperlink that hasn't migrated.

    You could try technical@triax.co.uk

Alternatively try one of the distributors like freeTv or Satellite.ie as they may have them archived for flashing boxes before selling.

Thanks for that STB. Unfortunately, neither FreeTv nor Satellite.ie were able to help here.

I had ordered and paid online for the TR212S from satellitetv.ie, got an order confirmation and payment receipt etc. etc. Once I established that there might be some difficulty in obtaining previously issued software updates, I emailed Satellite TV Ireland to confirm that updates, if required, would be available from them in respect of the box on order. I promptly got the following email response 'The Triax TR212 is Saorview approved so all software updates will be over the Air , i.e. the receiver will auto update as updates are released.' Clearly, I knew this to be totally untrue, confirmed this with Triax in UK and emailed Satellite TV Ireland to advise them of that and asking them to advise the build date and the version of the Triax boxe being despatched, so that I could ascertain if it was current in respect of all previously issued software updates etc. etc.

Unfortunately, there was no response to that email nor to 2 subsequent emails requesting information on order status etc. etc.

This morning I received an automatically genereated order cancellation email from Satellite TV Ireland and also a PayPay confirmation that a refund had been processed by Satellite TV Ireland.

This has been my unhappy experience with Satellite TV Ireland. Over the years, I have made several online purchases both domestic and international and I have to say that I have not encountered this type behaviour from any company prior to this instance.

I'm assuming they fixed the Download page, as links seem to work now.
    http://www.triax.uk/Support/Set%20top%20bokse/Terrestrial%20Set%20top%20boxes.aspx

Maybe SatelliteTV.ie thought they were doing you a favour, as getting a software update seemed impossible? I dunno.

Thanks for that link - obviously Triax included these again. I had a long telephone conversation with a very helpful gentleman there on Monday.

It is impossible to say if Satellite TV Ireland thought they were doing me a favour or not, but I would have thought that they knew or ought to have known that the particular box was not capable of performing on-air updates. Furthermore, given the fact that they failed to respond to emails and a telephone query leads to doubt their bona fides.

Thanks lads, I did the software upgrade on the 114 combo. Noticeable Change on Epg saorview logo now gone - replaced with triax logo.
Hopefully it also sorts out the box retuning itself and placing saorsat satellite channels at end of list.

It doesnt sort the blank channels appearing from the terrestrial side of things, only way I found that helps was to disable the auto standby and ensure how to turn the box off..

it does fix the screen ratio on the terrestrial channels thankfully.

Thanks, I noticed the screen change.

It can be a pain with the retuning.
After going to the bodder of new software, one would of thought they would have fixed the retuning.
With freeview in Wexford and weather changes we can sometimes pick up freeview channels from south England and further.

That software update is over 2 yrs old and Triax have not supported it at all since then, they have by far the worse Customer service I have ever seen or had the misfortune to deal with...especially when this was the most expensive combo box ever released...

Ye, I bought the box initially for €170 in powercity I think. The box was for my Father and I disabled the auto standby for him, so I didn't notice the auto tuning at the time, I now use the box in our house, the only thing is I don't like leaving the box on all the time, big blue light, and I'm possibly afraid of it over heating or something.
I generally leave the box powered on standby at the mains for recording function.

sticker over light at nite ...have found leaving box on standby brings back in all the blank lcn channels which are a pain to remove

So far so good, since the upgrade no retuning, no change on the channel list, hopefully it stays like this.

I have left the box in the normal function of going into standby after 3 hours.

    Folks

I was hoping to watch the red button service on TG4 this evening but it didn't work.
As some of you have noted here with the latest software upgrade (about 2 years old or more) the logo changed on the epg button press from a Saorview logo to a Triax one. I wonder does this have something to do with the red button not working.

I was posting re this on the Saorview Connect thread but I think I was taking it off topic so have revived this thread.
