    Rest Ice Compression Elevation.

    This is the standard go to treatment for an acute injury. However, all the research is now pointing to the contrary. Icing can actually inhibit recovery rather than speed it up. Even the original person behind the research Gabe Mirikin has debunked his own research and said it is the wrong thing to do.

    So do you ice an injury when it happens?

    I have been relatively good regarding injuries since I began running. But in times when I have, I usually go with compression and elevation mainly. I am a big believer in foam rollers to help prevent injuries in the first place.

    A physio in the hospital where I work....recommended warm/cold alternative treatment on a strain muscle...which helped. But as I say, I have been lucky. Hamstring has been my main reoccurring injury .

    All that said, I wasn't aware that they now were undermining the RICE treatment method...

    If I have generally soreness, say after a long runs I do apply an knee ice cap around my knees and find that helpful.....but not a real injury....
