On Tuesday over 2 mile at Flemington. Who will be the best hope of the raiders from Europe? Amralah, Almoonqith, Bondi Beach and Max Dynamite all given big chances. Should be firm ground. Thoughts? Does MD need cut? Will Amralah stay? Should be a cracking race. I'm tipping Preferment or Amralah

I think this could be a year for the Irish raiders.
I'm liking Max Dynamite with Frankie Detori in the saddle

3 out of the last 4 years of this race have been won by horses with a very low DI, the other one had a high DI. There are a lot of strong stayers in this year's race so I reckon the pace could be piled on and it could be one of these stoutly bred types that comes good on the day.

    Our Ivanhowe DI = 0.57 ...16/1

    The Offer DI = 0.52 ...25/1

    Quest For More DI = 0.76 ...66/1

    Excess Knowledge DI = 0.49 ...33/1

Our Ivanhowe DI = 0.57 is a former German horse that shot down the mightily hyped Sea The Moon in a GP1 12f race on good ground last year and has superior form to last year's German winner of this race. He's never been over further than 12.5f but is bred for this trip and the pace of this race, he finished a good 3rd in the top trial the Caulfield Cup ( a race full of runners in today's race ) over 12f on his last start and is 4 times the price of Japanese favourite for the race who he beat that day who is probably overrated a little.

I'd love to see Bondi Beach win because he's been a very unappreciated horse who was robbed of two wins IMO, it's just hard to see a 3yo win this race.

Approach: ---- Selection: ---- Average Odds: (decimal)
    —————————————————————————
    1. Safety Net: ---- Max Dynamite ---- x9 e/w
    2. Analytical Logic:---- Preferment ---- x10 win
    3. Karmic Resonance:---- Our Ivanhowe ---- x15 win
    4. The Placemat:---- Bondi Beach ---- x17 e/w
    5. Gut Feeling:---- Sky Hunter ---- x26 e/w
    6. Lucky Dip:---- Quest For More ---- x67 e/w

Will probably just tag these six on to the end of safer, mixed sport, longer-term, e/w accums.
And few ‘win & place only’ mixed with Novelty selections. If a couple of them place, that'll do fine.

Max Dynamite, and Who Shot Thebarman to win

Fame Game and Bondi Beach in a Duet

Have a small trifeca on too, and the office sweeps. Hopefully I draw one of the above to keep it simple.

    My trifeca horses cames 2nd, 3rd and 4th :mad::mad::mad:

Any chance of a DQ for the winner :p
Seen current trifecta is paying out 26,000/1

    Just watched it there.
Max Dynamite could have won if getting a clearer passage I think.

Gave the winner a couple of lengths just by switching. Would surely have won if had gotten a run.

Is it the camera angle or does the finish come up very quickly when you watch that race.

Fair play to the winner.. Drawn 1 and won it well

An amazing story, absolutely delighted for them all.

I've just learned the result and watched it on Youtube a couple of times.
Saved ground on the rail all the way, came off the rail before the start of the home turn, a massive gap opened, won well.

    Cinderella story

I was impressed by the race commentary. Very good imo with 24 horses. I'm sure everyone in Australia wanted to hear their horse mentioned.

They finished 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th all in a heap not too far behind the winner.

Outsprinted at the finish of 2m takes some doing..:) The race was won in a time 6 seconds slower than last year which explains why they finished in a relative heap.

Hadn't thought too much about the draw but the first 3 home were drawn 1, 2 and 4. Have to say though that it makes a brilliant spectacle seeing 24 flat horses stretched out like train carriages snaking around the bends in such an important race.

Anyone think if Dettori had not switched,he could have gotten Max Dynamite through the gap that opened?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 156 ✭✭Meath Centre Forward

Max Dynamite definitely unlucky. Not sure you can blame Dettori. Switched early when he wasn't getting a run and then had to switch again out around the eventual winner. Dettori and Mullins will be cursing their luck ... might never get a better chance.

Also agree about the commentator Greg Miles. Think it was the year Viewed won it by a nostril, he called it without hesitation as they went past the post! Also the commentators (one I recognise as the old Hong Kong commentator) at Sydney are very good too, maybe it's the accent of these Aussie's. The one Aussie over here Jim McGrath, I'm not sure if he was everyone's cup of tea!!

Dettori must of used the whip 20 times in the last furlong. :pac:

Generally that's the reason. Most offices/workplace etc would have a sweep on the race. Little old lady who have no other bet all year, getting a boost hearing the name. The whole grinds to a halt for the race, Victoria takes the whole day off.
