what would cause this air lock ?

    Guys
I am finding that i am getting air locks in my cold water system upstairs. I have narrowed this down to the mixer tap in the main bathroom because the flow on that seems to get weakest first and then spread to rest of upstairs and toilets until all are dry

my current fix for this is when i see the flow reducing , i just do the trick of putting hand under tap, turn on hot and then cold and keep hand there for 2 mins. This brings the flow back to normal and the air lock never arrives.

Any idea what is causing this ? There is 100% no air getting into tank as i have monitored it during all heavy water usage and it never goes below the pipe.

I have noticed that outside the house where the waste water pipe leaves the main bathroom, there is a water drip and even when in the main bathroom sometimes i can hear like a water air gurgle coming from the toilet

    ANy ideas ?

I don't quite follow you. But from what I can make out its not an air lock it sounds more like a water supply issue possibly caused by undersized pipework or a restriction. Can you tell me is the flow of water all ways weak in the taps or does it occur after flushing the toilet.

I bought a house where the main ensuite toilet is fed by the central heating
Took me ages to work it out lol

Reminds me of the time I found a washing machine connected to the central heating system of a new apartment. :D

Yeah pressure isn't great in the cold taps . But tank is Defo filling fine

is it just the taps that have poor flow? do the toilet cisterns fill ok? is the flow at the taps the same or worse if something else in the house is drawing water?

Flow the same all the time

Toilets fill fine too but slowly

As I say above if the flow reduces and I don't do my workaround then then cisterns will eventually stop filling

I've seen faulty non return valves cause this exact problem. Now why you might have a non return valve on the cold side is beyond me

Could be something in the pipework or blocking the outlet from the water tank like a bit of attic insulation. I've removed insulation from inside a tap that came from the attic a couple of times. Check the tank for debris.
