Hi, I was wondering did anyone ever use hypnosis for fibromyalgia to help manage the pain?

Can't say I've ever heard of hypnosis being of any use. Have you tried other common solutions that work for some people like diet modifications and light to moderate exercise? I know exercise isn't always an option, but it is beneficial to those with Fibro who can do some walking/swimming.

Over the last 15 years I've tried diet, I exercise, meditation, try to avoid stress you name it I've tried it.

I was talking to my sister, who is a GP, and she said one to the theories is it is related to some past issues. She has patients from war torn countries to be exact with terrible pain. There is research that some trauma in childhood can later manifest itself later in life as in Fibromyalgia, a name when someone is in pain and they can't find the source.

I know doctors recommend CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), but I suppose I thought it might be easier to train my brain to deal with the pain, or even unresolved issues.

It's probably worth a try. Nobody can tell you that it's useless as we have very little understanding of what causes Fibro and different things work for different people.

My daughter was diagnosed with it in June - was mostly wheelchair bound at that point. By fluke I found some articles pointing at aspartame as a possible cause. Removed it from her diet completely and she's practically back to normal - running around, back to scouts, taking part in PE in school, everything. Mileage may vary but it's worth a try - the stuff is everywhere but must be listed as an ingredient so check all labels.

Great to hear that your daughter made such a dramatic improvement. I've heard many stories of people with Fibro finding food intolerances that have made a big differences to their symptoms. For me it was gluten. However, like most things with Fibro, what works for some doesn't work for others. I also have a problem with aspartame. Not to the extent your daughter did, but it definitely doesn't agree with me so I avoid it.

Absolutely. That's why I said Mileage may vary. But there do seem to be clear links between the two.
