I'm looking for some advice please. Am selling my car and an interested party is looking for a copy of the log book before they've even viewed the car. Is this an unusual request? Thanks.

Yes I wouldn't send a copy, could be trying to clone it, did they say why they wanted it? Is it a run of the mill car or something special?

There is absolutely no reason I can think of why a buyer would need to see a log book before even viewing the car.
If you think they're genuine, photocopy it and black out part of the chassis number and engine number and the serial number and your name/address and send them it. They can do nothing with it then although I still can't see why anyone would want it.

Not a hope. They are free to do a data check if they wish.

Under no circumstances. Folk are quite free to verify VIN, etc. on-site.

There may be a valid reason for them to view it beforehand, I just can't think of one.

The only warning I would give with this was something I found out accidentally a while back. I copied bank statements to support a loan application then blacked out the a/c numbers etc. with a permanent marker. When I scanned the redacted docs. to send off by email the a/c numbers etc. were clearly visible in the scans! I had to cut out the sections and scan them again.

I think it might have been because the copies were done on an inkjet printer.

Also, no I wouldn't send off any copy of the reg. cert.
