Should I give the 2016 DCM a go?

Hey, hi. I started running in February. Went from doing kilometre runs a few times a week, to doing 5ks, to 8ks, up to running 10ks a couple times a week. Yesterday I ran my first unofficial half marathon and clocked in at two hours 29 mins.

Would I be able for the DCM next year? If so, what should I do to prepare? The one issue holding me back is I know you've to sign up way in advance, so I'm worried I might sign up then not be fit enough on time or something. I'd love to run it though.

I signed up a month before, so you don't have to sign up that far in advance! :)

I was in a similar boat to you. I started in July 14, and just ran DCM last Monday. I followed the boards Novices plan. Before that I followed the Hal Higdon Half Marathon plan. You should be well able.

Do it, I've never experienced anything like it.
I've memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life from last Monday.
If you work at it you'll be able for it, follow the boards plan.

Cheers lads, yeah I'll follow the boards plan. Currently reading up on this year's stickied one, all sounds like great advice.

I would say most definitely yes!!
Continue your running as you are and this will increase your base line fitness. Winter can be difficult to get out and run but it certainly will benefit your over all fitness levels as well as improve your health. By the end of Winter you will feel a lot more confident about your running abilities.....
    Congratulations on your unofficial HM.....

You'll be able if you put the work in :)

Most marathon training plans will start in June or so, which is a long way away. It's probably a good idea to do a few races between now and then to give you some experience and goals to race for, while building up your milage. You could look at following a training plan for the race, or use a generic one such as http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51289/Spring-Training-Intermediate-Schedule

Hi Fbjm, I just saw the following online and thought of your post. Sounds like a great opportunity.

Amphibian King are looking for 6 Marathon virgins who are looking to do the Dublin City Marathon in 2016.

We are running a program for 2016 where we will track 6 Amphibian King Marathon virgins as they document their trials and tribulations as they train for their first marathon in 2016. We are looking for people who are currently writing blogs or at least have a good social media presence, as our followers on Facebook will be interested to follow their weekly updates.

In order to help you on your quest we will get you free entry to the Irish Runner 5 miler in the park. The 10k race in Fingal along with the Frank Duffy 10 Miler The Dublin half marathon and the Athlone ¾ marathon. You will also get free running gear from Amphibian King, €500 worth of gear over the course of the year and Amphibian King running singlet’s so you’ll be identified in the races. You may be required to do some media work during the course of the year but this will fit around your work/life. It is a big commitment but if you are interested in taking part please email us why you think you’d make a good ambassador to damian@amphibianking.ie

I'm not one to self-promote and wouldn't have brought it up otherwise, but I actually am writing a blog about my training. I'll definitely look into this man, thanks.
