Gas hob installation

    Hi,

Getting a new kitchen fitted in a couple of weeks and have just bought a 5-burner gas hob which we will need installed and connected up to an external bottle of gas.

First (possibly stupid) question is who installs gas hobs? Is it an electrician, plumber or is there some new gas-specific guild out there that I'm unaware of? I know they need to be rgi registered but in general what trade does this fall under as ideally I'd like to get someone to do the hob plus electrics and/or plumbing at the same time?

2nd (possibly stupid) question is when is the best time to get the hob installed? Is it worth the installer coming before the kitchen units are put in so he can run the pipework or is it ok to do all this after the kitchen fitter has finished up?

Finally, I did some checking and I think we need to get the jets changed on the hob (Whirlpool AKR 318/IX) as it is set to run on natural gas so who supplies the jets (i.e. retailer, manufacturer)?

    Any help appreciated,
    NT

It might be worth talking to the kitchen fitter to see if he has a tame RGI he usually works with otherwise the RGI follows the kitchen fitter.

The specific injectors for the hob should come with the appliance so talk to your supplier if you don't have them.

Thanks for the replies. Will ask the kitchen fitter to drill the hole for the pipe to connect to the external LPG bottle. Any idea what size pipe (and hole) is used?

Also, will be getting the kitchen fitter to drill the hole for the cooker hood vent. Tubing for hood is 6" which seems very big to me - is this a standard size and would it be a good idea to use a reducer to avoid having to drill a 6" hole in the wall?
