Radio resets when car is turned off (JVC)

I've a mk4 golf with an aftermarket JVC stereo, everytime I turn off the car and start it up again, the radio resets itself. It was the same with the previous Sony stereo in the car before I swapped it out. It doesn't store any channels either and goes back into demo mode.

Any ideas how to rectify this?

The red and yellow wires in the loom have to be swapped for VAG cars. There should be adapters in the loom for this. ie the red has to plug into the yellow and the yellow into the red.

More than likely you need to swap 2 wires on the harness adaptor.
Your stereo takes 2 12v feeds. One is permanent and is used for the clock and remembering stations, the other is switched and tells the radio to turn on and off with the key.
Should be red and yellow cables. They'll have bullet connectors.

They seem to be heatshrinked, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Those connections pull apart. That's what you're looking for.
