We'll be flying into the Trevisco Airport

Could anyone whose been before give us some pointers on -
    1. Getting To/From Airport (when get there need to off at the shuttle stop Giardini)
    2. Things To See
    3. Rough Price Wise Analysis
    4. Places to eat.

As always, any help greatly appreciated.

    To get there:
351 bus from Treviso to Venezia Piazzale Roma - this is the main bus station.

Walk (couple of minutes, if that) to the P.le Roma (Parisi) "E" stop and get the number 6 waterbus going towards Lido. It only stops at two stops on your journey, Zattere SX and Giardini Biennale SX, and takes about 25 minutes.

The waterbus fares are dear, so get a two or three day travelcard before you get the first boat.

This page shows where your bus comes in and where to get your boat - top left of photo.

Don't miss Burano. It's a stunning island across the lagoon. We took a vaparetto, we had a 72 hour pass, great value overall when going around Venice.

Don't follow the crowds from the bus station to Piazza San Marco, veer off in to the lesser side streets and 'get lost', cheaper cafes and restaurants and a nicer experience IMO

The Doges palace is in the main square and a must see IMHO, it's incredible. We did the "secret itineraries" (pre-booked at home) and it was amazing, it goes up into that attic of the palace and gives a different view to the obvious opulence of the place.

The tower just beside in the palace, in St. Mark's square, is good for a birds eye view and photos. St. Marks basilica is wonderous, whether you're religious or not.

I'd echo what the other poster said and get lost!! The best part is wandering down little side streets and getting away from the crowds. We tried to follow a guidebook but it ended up being useless.

Take a gondola trip, they are wickedly expensive but you might never be back in Venice again. Our one regret was not doing this.

Food is quite expensive (no more expensive than Dublin), some nice restaurants are off the beaten track and a bit cheaper. Typical Italian cuisine. If the nights are cold many outdoor vendors will sell delicious hot chocolate and mulled wine for a couple of euro. Fairly magical wandering around in the cold, with twinkling lights glimmering off the river and not a sound of traffic. (With a nice mulled wine). It's very romantic and a real joy.

Any specific questions, just ask away. :)
