A friend is having to replace a gas boiler in a recently purchased house, and has decided to do the heating controls upgrade with grant from seai. One of the plumbers quoted to include upgrading some part of the pipe work, possibly around the boiler, from 1/2 in to 3/4in - apparently to heat the water quicker.

I've never heard of this, and didnt get exact details, have any of you heard of this?

I've suggested he get much more info, or just disregard this element of work as there was no cost implication

    I'd appreciate any comments

Sounds like the installer is increasing the gas pipe size which is a good thing, as most new A rated boilers require a 3/4" feed anyway
