Trying to figure out the difference between what I'll get selling a car to a garage and privately. Any garage recommendation with a record of buying 2nd hand cars at good prices.

Nope they already have a yard full of 2nd hand cars.

The only way they will want yours is if it is very desirable and they can buy cheap, cover their overheads by selling on quickly for good profit.

You'll make most money selling private

What year make of car are you selling

Selling to a garage will get you if your lucky half what it might be for sale retail. There's very little skill in selling a car private, a few good photos, basic common sense, a car with an NCT and it will sell.

If you don't need a new car then private sale is probably best bet.
Even if you need a new car you probably would get more privately than as a trade-in.
