the procedure to insure an Irish plate car for change over to Uk plates is to insure by chassis number until the car is rereg'd
I had all the details which I got from I think society of british insurance brokers .(ring the DVLA )
there are only 2 brokers or companies that do it , one of which is Adrian Flux ,
but because they know they have you over a barrel they charge an arm and a leg .
If as Cinio says you always retain your 3rd party cover then you are legally covered in UK
and that's good news for me .
to me residence is only in the context of " where the car is normally kept overnight " and is only required to be known for calculating the risk of theft .
but if you lose this after being abroad for 30 days or as it is 90 days in any one year then residence is not an issue unless you have a Ferrari and are worried about it being damaged .
what I would like to find out is can I insure a car in Ireland and Uk (uk reg ) at the same time only driving one at a time obviously it seems I can only use my no claims bonus on one therefore the second policy is very expensive .
