Water remaining in the dishwasher drain, gets v.smelly

    Hi everyone,
For some reason the water isn't fully draining out of the dishwasher and some is remaining in the filter section. I've cleaned out the filter itself (it was barely dirty) and that hasn't helped.

The dishwasher does a cycle without any problem, and the water isn't pooling up in the floor of the machine itself, so that would suggest the drain/filter isn't blocked, yet for some reason an amount of water is still left around the filter drain between cycles.

Regarding the smell it seems to get very smelly very quickly (like, very pungent after a few days). Seems strange that the smell would get that bad that quickly if it's just what's remaining from rinsing the dishes, doesn't really make sense.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Every machine will have water left under the filter when it finishes, the water in the drain hose between the pump and the top of the standpipe always falls back in and this amt. will be about 3/4 of a pint, if there is more than this there is a blockage somewhere in the outlet system. As regards the smell the first thing you need to check, is there is an air break where the emptying hose enters the standpipe and that someone hasn't it taped off thus allowing a smell back in from the shore, if its plumbed into a connection under the sink remove the hose and check it for grease/gunk build up
